The Archbishop of Armagh, the Most Revd Alan Harper, OBE, welcomed the Archbishop of Burundi, the Most Revd Bernard Ntahoturi, to Armagh yesterday, Thursday 10th September 2009. After spending some time together at Church House, Armagh, the two Primates visited St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral.

Archbishop Ntahoturi from Matana Diocese in Burundi is on a two-week visit to Ireland, organised through CMS Ireland. This is the Archbishop’s third visit to Ireland and he is undertaking a series of events and meetings across the island. Speaking about the Archbishop’s visit, CMSI Regional Mission Partner for Mid and East Africa, Niall Manogue, said, ‘It is a pleasure to receive Archbishop Bernard once again to Ireland. He is a gifted and vibrant communicator and we are benefiting from hearing his stories from Burundi, and pleased to share our stories from Ireland with him. It is a real encouragement to supporters of Burundi to meet with the Archbishop, and also for him to share fellowship with those who have a heart for God’s mission in this world.’

Archbishop Harper also expressed his pleasure in being able to meet with his fellow Primate of the Anglican Communion in the Primatial See of Armagh, saying it was a ‘renewal of warm greetings’, both having enjoyed meeting earlier in February this year at the Primates’ Meeting in Alexandria, Egypt, which resulted in the communiqué, ‘Deeper Communion; Gracious Restraint’ (available at: http://www.aco.org/communion/primates/resources/downloads/Pastoral Letter.pdf).
