Black Santa Barrel for Haiti
The Dean of Belfast, the Very Revd Dr Houston McKelvey, has announced that a special Black Santa 'Barrel for Haiti' for the survivors of the disaster is available for members of the public, companies, clubs and schools who would wish to assist the recovery of the victims.
The 'Barrel for Haiti' is situated just inside the front door of the cathedral and the Cathedral Stewards and staff will welcome visitors. Gift Aid envelopes are available. The Cathedral is open from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm on weekdays and from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 3.00 - 4.30 pm on Sundays.
Dean McKelvey said the initiative is in response to members of the public who contacted him stating that they would wish to give their support through the Cathedral. Cheques should be made payable to: Belfast Cathedral - Haiti.
Donations received will be forwarded through well established bona fide relief agencies.
Postal donations may be sent to The Dean, Belfast Cathedral, Donegall St, Belfast BT1 2HB
The recent annual pre-Christmas Sitout for Charities has raised just over £250,000. Donations have already been made to Christian Aid, and to The Order of St John and the Order of Malta for their work in Ireland and the Holy Land.
The local charities and community groups who will benefit from the Sitout will receive their donations at a 'Good Samaritans’ Service' on Sunday 7th, February 2010 at 3.30 pm.
Dean McKelvey said, 'Once again the people of this community have been extremely generous. The economic depression had no effect on the outcome. The Black Santa team and the lay helpers have been greatly encouraged by the spirit of the contributors - individuals, clubs, schools and churches.'
