Pentecost Open-air Interdenominational Service

Since 2002, the two bishops of Clogher, the Most Reverend Dr Joseph Duffy and the Right Reverend Dr Michael Jackson, have invited fellow-Christians in Clogher Diocese to worship together in the open air on Whitsunday, the Feast of Pentecost. Such gatherings have been held in Clogher, in Aghalurcher Old Graveyard, in Donagh, in Errigal Truagh and this year in Clones. The importance of St Tighernach of Clones and of the Monastery there is difficult to underestimate in the life of Clogher Diocese.

Both bishops were delighted when Bishop Noel Treanor, who attended last year’s Pentecost Service, agreed to speak this year. Bishop Treanor, bishop of Down and Connor, is a son of Clogher Diocese and is always warmly welcomed among us. The coming of the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem at Pentecost remains a focal point of Christian witness worldwide and an inspiration to both discipleship and mission in the contemporary world.

This year’s Service will involve many from across the churches in Clones and will be held in the historically important Round Tower Cemetery in Clones, County Monaghan. The Service begins at 3.00pm on Sunday 23rd May and will be followed by tea and an opportunity for all present to mingle and enjoy one another’s company. Every one is welcome to attend.
