Installation of Dean of Ossory
Next Friday evening in St Canice’s Cathedral, Kilkenny, the Bishop of Cashel & Ossory will institute Canon Katherine Poulton as incumbent of the Kilkenny group of parishes. She will subsequently be installed as Dean of Ossory. The preacher will be the Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, the Most Revd David Chillingworth.

Canon Poulton is a daughter of the rectory - her late father, the Revd Robert Noble, was Rector of Kilwarlin in Down diocese. After school in Belfast she read theology in Manchester University and trained for ministry in the Church of Ireland Theological College.  Following ordination in 1987 she served a series of curacies in Down, Dromore and Connor and, following the appointment of her husband as Rector of Killiney, Ballybrack, in 1999, was appointed curate in Greystones.

Since 2000 she has been Bishop’s Curate in the north inner city Dublin parish of St George & St Thomas. The church, in Cathal Brugha Street has been imaginatively re-developed. As well as serving the local Church of Ireland community it is home to the multi-racial Discovery programme and the Indian Orthodox community. In 2007 Canon Poulton was appointed to the chapter of Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, and since 2008 has been Central Director of Ordinands.

On Tuesday evening in Mountrath, the Revd Ian Poulton will be instituted to the incumbency of the Clonenagh group of parishes. The preacher at the service will be the Archdeacon of Meath & Kildare, the Ven. Leslie Stevenson. Mr Poulton, a graduate of LSE, was trained in the Church of Ireland Theological College, and ordained in 1986. Following curacies in Down diocese he was Rector of Larne & Inver from 1996 to 1999 before coming to Dublin. He has a particular interest in broadcasting.

This weekend the Church of Ireland Centre for Celtic Spirituality, which is directed by the Revd Grace Clunie, will hold its 2010 conference in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh. The theme will be ‘Ancient Gifts for Modern Times’.
