Parish collections for tsunami victims

PARISH COLLECTIONS THIS SUNDAY FOR TSUNAMI VICTIMS

Friday 31st December 2004

The Church of Ireland Primate, Archbishop Robin Eames, today called on all Church of Ireland parishes in the Northern Dioceses to give generously this Sunday to help the victims of the tsunami quake disaster.

Archbishop Eames said that the Bishops Appeal for Asia had received tremendous support so far and he appealed for a special effort at Sunday services this weekend.

He said: "The horror and suffering in the coastal regions of the Indian Ocean is becoming more and more evident by the day. I am therefore asking our parish congregations to have special collections this Sunday in support of the Church of Ireland Bishops' Appeal, which is channelling funds to aid agencies working in the disaster areas. The more each individual and parish can do to help the better."

Donations may be sent to the Church of Ireland Bishops' Appeal, Church House, Donegall Street, Belfast 1.
