?Do they know it?s Christmas time at all??
More than 125,000 dead. Forecasts suggesting that this could double. Five Million people now in need of help. It?s over whelming. What can we do? Can we do anything? Yes we can!
The Church Mission Society Ireland (CMSI) is working in partnership with a Church in Thailand, which is already involved in relief work in the devastation areas of their country. They have told us that ?in many cases people who were hit by the tsunamis have lost loved ones, their homes, all their possessions and livelihoods. Often ever the clothes that they stood up in had been shredded by their ordeal: in quite a few cases the raging waters left people naked.?
They have called for help, our help. Rather than be over whelmed into doing nothing let?s act. Let?s hold onto the Christmas message of sharing love with our families and neighbours and as families let?s gather up the basis needs for the families in Thailand; and they are basic! They need blankets, underwear, babies and children?s clothing, and sanitary pads.
CMS Ireland has arranged for a container to be air freighted early next week to give maximum relief followed by additional containers going by sea. So please, please, please act now. Grab a cardboard box and fill it with what you can. The clothes don?t have to be new but they need to be clean and functional. Seal the box and stick a label listing the contents securely to the outside of the box.
Then take it to Seapatrick Parish Church, Church Square, Banbridge or arrange your own local collection point, but please check with us first.
We need to move fast, so please act now. You can make a difference.
God Bless you.
