Former manager of the Good Book Shop, Mrs Evelyn Lewis, has retired after 24 years of service with the bookshop and prior to that with APCK.

To mark the occasion the Board of Directors hosted a lunch at Church of Ireland House on Monday September 27 for Evelyn and her husband Canon Walter Lewis. The lunch was also attended by staff from Church House, and Evelyn’s former colleagues in the Good Book Shop.

Thanking Evelyn for her many years of dedicated service, Mr Dermot O’Callaghan, vice chair of the Board of Directors, said he had been a satisfied customer over the years. He added that the diligence and helpful service he and others received from the bookshop was often down to Evelyn and he thanked her for all her hard work.

The Bishop of Down and Dromore, the Rt Rev Harold Millar, told the gathering: “I want to thank Evelyn for ploughing a straight furrow all these years and for serving the bookshop very faithfully not only as her job but as her ministry.”

Bishop Millar presented Evelyn with gifts from the directors and staff.  Expressing gratitude for the gifts and the lovely lunch, Evelyn said that the bookshop, both as APCK and as the Good Book Shop, had been a very large part of her life for 24 years. As she reflected on those years, she said that it was difficult for any small independent shop to compete with internet sales sites, but urged the parishes of Connor and Down and Dromore dioceses to continue to support the Good Book Shop.

Evelyn paid tribute to her dedicated and hardworking team, and wished the book shop every success for the future.
