This weekend Letterkenny in Co Donegal is celebrating 400 years as a town. Throughout the weekend the church will be open to visitors and there will be a guided tour of the church at 4pm today (Saturday).  As St Columba’s Day falls next Thursday the weekend’s programme includes the annual outdoor service celebrating the life of the saint. The weekend concludes with a Baroque evening in Conwal Parish Church at 8pm tomorrow (Sunday) evening.

During the past year and more St Columb’s cathedral, Derry, has been the scene of a major refurbishment and renovation. There are few parts of the interior and exterior that have not received major attention. The cathedral, which was opened, in 1634 will celebrate this work with a Service of Thanksgiving and Dedication on Thursday evening at 7.30pm. St Columb’s is one of the most ancient buildings within the city walls and makes a major contribution to the religious, cultural and community life of the city.
