Sea Sunday Celebrations
Tomorrow (Sunday) the annual ecumenical Sea Sunday Service will take place in Kinsale. This year the service will be held in the medieval splendour of St Multose?s parish church where the rector, Canon David Williams, will be joined by clergy from the Roman Catholic parish, the Carmelite Friary and the local Methodist circuit. A collection will be made for the RNLI and the Mission to Seafarers and, after the service, a wreath will be laid at the Seamen?s Memorial followed by the Blessing of the Boats at the pier head.
The purpose of Sea Sunday is to commemorate those who have died at sea, to pray for the safety of those who work at sea, who use the sea for recreation and who respond to marine emergencies.
The Kinsale service is celebrated as part of the international Missions to Seafarers organization which serves those at sea in over 280 ports around the world. It is the response of the Anglican Communion to the needs of seafarers and is known to many, through its logo, as ?The Flying Angel?.
