Rt Revd Ken Good & Fr Michael Canny visit family of PSNI officer

Bishop Ken Good, Church of Ireland Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, and Fr Michael Canny, on behalf of Derry diocese, paid a joint visit to the parents of a PSNI officer who were the victims of a pipe bomb attack in Shantallow, Derry / Londonderry on Sunday 15thApril. Bishop Good and Fr Canny visited the family on the evening of 17th April. In a joint statement they said:

‘This attack was designed to maim and intimidate and we unite in condemning it. Our community is shocked to think of the consequences in terms of injury and suffering that could have been inflicted through such a reckless act. The community also rejects such a total disregard for the sacredness of human life.

Our visit to the family today is not just an expression of pastoral support but also a statement of our solidarity with them on behalf of our communities. The family has shown considerable courage and dignity in the face of such an attack. We are grateful to people who offer their service to the community through membership of the PSNI. We give them our unequivocal support and encourage young people from across the community not to be deterred from serving the public by joining the PSNI. The future for our community lies in finding ways to serve our neighbour rather than seeking to injure or intimidate them.’
