New Clerical Succession List Published

This morning at 11am in the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, Cashel,
Clergy of Cashel and Emly, and Leighlin, complied by the Revd Ian Knox and Canon David Crooks, will be launched by the Dean of Cashel, Dr Philip Knowles.

This compilation expands and updates St John Seymour’s The parochial clergy in the united diocese of Cashel and Emly which was published in 1908 and publishes, for the first time, the biographical succession list of the clergy of Leighlin which had been compiled by Canon J.B. Leslie in 1939. The book will contain details of some 2,750 clergy, photographs of the churches and brief historical notes on the diocese and parishes. It has been published by the Ulster Historical Foundation in Belfast.

This is the twelfth volume in what has turned into a programme to publish and update the Canon Leslie’s clerical succession lists. The first, Clergy of Connor, published in 1993 by a diocesan committee in which the late Dean of Connor, the Very Revd Norman Barr, was a leading light, was followed in 1996 by a volume for Down and Dromore, compiled by largely the same team. Ian Knox has been responsible for Clergy of Waterford, Lismore and Ferns while David Crooks has been involved in volumes for Clogher, Derry & Raphoe, Kilmore, Elphin & Ardagh, Tuam, Killala & Achonry and Killaloe, Kilfenora, Clonfert & Kilmacduagh. In addition there have been volumes on Dublin & Glendalough and on Meath by Ronnie Wallace and on Armagh by Canon Ted Fleming.

This evening at 8pm in Holy Trinity church, Killiney, the Altissimo Quintet will present ‘Music for a Summer’s Evening with Lynda Lee (soprano), Andreja Malir (harp), Catriona Ryan (flute) and pianist Fiachra Trench.

Tomorrow morning participants at the Pipeworks Summer School will participate in the Parish Eucharist in Holy Trinity church, Crosshaven, where there will be music from organist Harald Vogel, the Crosshaven Consort and the Templebreedy Children’s Choir. At 6pm in St Colman’s church, Farahy, near Mitchelstown, there will be a candlelight recital of songs by Nicholas McMurry (countertenor) and Ryan Morgan (tenor) while Calary parish church, Co. Wicklow, will host a showcase for young musicians as part of its ‘Music in Calary’ series.

On Tuesday evening the Archbishop of Dublin will be in Maynooth where he will preside and preach in St Mary’s church as part of the Annual Summer School of the Irish Church Musicians Associations.

The Church’s Ministry of Healing will hold a Thanksgiving Service & Gift Day on Wednesday at 3pm in St George & St Thomas’s church, Cathal Brugha Street, Dublin, where the address will be given by the Revd Darren McCallig, Dean of Residence in Trinity College. In St Mary’s cathedral, Limerick there will be a lunchtime recital in aid of the Companions of St Mary’s Music, by the Choir of St Catherine’s College, Cambridge, directed by Edward Wickham, well known for his Gramophone award winning vocal consort, The Clerks.

The AGM of the Church of Ireland Clergy Widows and Orphan Society will be held in Church of Ireland House, Dublin, on Thursday at 2.30pm
and anyone who is interested is welcome to attend. In the evening the Bishop of Cashel & Ossory will institute the Revd Michael Stevenson to the Bunclody union of parishes. Mr Stevenson was ordained in 1986 for the curacy of Clooney in the diocese of Derry and more recently has been a chaplain to the forces.
