Bishops’ Appeal: Urgent Funds Needed
The

Bishops' Appeal
Bishops' Appeal
Bishops’ Appeal, which is the Church of Ireland’s principal agency for supporting the developing world, has requested harvest and advent funds for the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Syria and for the refugees in surrounding Iraq, Lebanon and Jordan. Eight million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. As little as €30/£25 can buy rice, beans, lentils, sugar, salt as well as cheese and milk to combat malnutrition in children.

Funds are also urgently required for important projects such as agricultural self help groups in Uganda and a garden project among the malnourished and displaced Wichi people in Argentina. Empowering rural people is an essential first step to eradicating poverty. Due to funding constraints, worthwhile projects such as these are on hold.
Donations may be sent to Bishops’ Appeal, Church of Ireland House, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6.

The concern for the plight of Syria will be echoed again on Wednesday when there will be a Day of Prayer for Syria in St Anne’s cathedral, Belfast from 9am until 5pm with contributions from, among others, the Bishop of Connor, the Deans of Belfast and Down, the Revd Dr Heather Morris of the Methodist Church and the Very Revd Dr Hugh Kennedy from St Peter’s cathedral.
