The new Dean of Killala and Achonry and Canons of the Chapter of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Killala were Installed during a Service of Lessons and Carols on Advent Sunday 2013.

The service was led by Canon Neil O’Raw who is also Rector of Killala Union of Parishes. Archdeacon Alan Synnott installed Dean Alistair Grimason who then installed Canon Maureen Ryan, Canon Doris Clements and Canon Kathy Trimby.

Readings appropriate to the great themes of Advent were read by Mrs Enid Good ( Killala ), Mrs Myrtle Nairn ( Ballysadare ), Mrs Karen Duignan ( Achonry ), Mrs Anne Synnott ( Skreen ) and Mr Norman Reid ( Kilmoremoy ). Splendid Advent hymns were played by Mrs Daphne Higgins on the cathedral organ.

Bishop Rooke thanked and congratulated all those who had contributed to the service. We were privileged to have Bishop Mark Strange of our link diocese of Moray, Caithness and Ross with us to pronounce the closing Benediction.

After the service, the whole congregation was treated to mulled wine and mince pies by the ladies of Killala and Achonry.
