Bishop of Derry and Raphoe Condemns Bomb Attack on Everglades Hotel

Bishop Ken Good, the Bishop of Derry and Raphoe, has issued the following statement in response to the firebomb attack on the Everglades Hotel on 29 May 2014:

‘To attack a busy hotel with a firebomb is an act of extreme recklessness that could have had tragic consequences. Such an act could easily have resulted in death and serious injury. As it is a local business that brings jobs to our local community has been needlessly damaged.

Our city is leading the way in working together to build a better future for all. Local businesses that bring jobs and prosperity are a vital part of creating this. To put the lives of employees and patrons at risk and to damage a business is an attack on all our wellbeing.

I call on those who plan or perpetrate such acts to reflect on the hopelessness of what they offer not only to the citizens of this city but also to themselves. Their fellow citizens and future generations truly deserve something better.’
