Statement From Bishop Patrick Rooke On The Former Mother And Child Home In Tuam

Statement from the Church of Ireland Bishop of Tuam, the Rt Revd Patrick Rooke, with regard to the former mother and child home in Tuam:

‘Like many others, I welcome the announcement of a commission of inquiry into all such homes from the past. In the light of the research carried out by Tuam local historian Catherine Corless on St Mary’s home, serious issues have emerged and clarity is required. My thoughts and prayers at this time are particularly with those birth mothers, still alive today, who have lived for more than fifty years with the sorrow of what they experienced.’
