Archbishop Eames visits troops in Iraq

The Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland, the Most Revd Dr Robin Eames, is making a pre-Christmas pastoral visit to members of the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment serving in Iraq.

During the three-day visit Dr Eames will meet with chaplains, visit a field hospital, share meals with soldiers of all ranks, and take part in acts of worship.

Responding to the invitation from the regiment to visit the soldiers on active duty in Iraq, Dr Eames said, ?I am delighted to have been invited to visit the regiment as they serve here in Iraq. I feel it is important to offer pastoral support to all those who are serving far from home and families as Christmas approaches.?

The 1st Royal Irish Regiment has been serving in Iraq since its tour of duty began earlier this year in July, and the regiment includes soldiers from both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
