Joint Christmas Message from the Bishops of Cork, Most Revd John Buckley and Rt Revd Paul Colton

CHRISTMAS MESSAGE 2005

From the Most Revd John Buckley, Bishop of Cork and Ross
and the Right Revd Paul Colton, Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross

The coming to earth of Jesus Christ truly changed the course of human history. He came because of the love that he has for each and every one of us.

In this first Christmas since he died, we remember the words of the late Pope John Paul to a group of pilgrims in Rome shortly before he died. He said, ?Jesus Christ is still the centre of the human race, the joy of every heart, the answer and the fulfilment of all our aspirations?.

Jesus Christ alone is the answer to all our yearnings. The human search for happiness and the message of Jesus Christ are made for one another. It is through Jesus we discover the greatness of our humanity.

We encourage all people to invite Christ into their lives and homes at this time. Let us celebrate the bonds that unite families, strengthened by family prayer.

We welcome, too, all from other countries who are spending Christmas here.

We give thanks for the generosity of many people, particularly young people, at this time of year who reach out so willingly to others at home and abroad. That too is the spirit of Christmas.

Finally, we welcome all who have come home for Christmas.

We wish you all every joy, happiness and blessing throughout this Holy Season and throughout the New Year.
