Church of Ireland Notes from The Irish Times

New Issue of Search

The spring 2006 issue of the Church of Ireland journal, Search, edited by Canon Ginnie Kennerley, is now available from the Resource Centre, Holy Trinity Church, Church Avenue, Rathmines, Dublin 6, and contains an intriguing mixture of articles on theology, ethics, literature and history.

An exerpt from the forthcoming book entitled Jesus and Paul by the renowned American biblical scholar, John Dominic Crossan, is an impressive opening and articles on recent developments in the Church in China by the Revd Alan McCormack and the Revd Patrick Comerford, both officers of the newly re-activated Dublin University Far Eastern Mission, maintain this contemporary theme. Contributions by Professor Patrick Morrison on stem cell research and Frances and Stephen White on remorse and grace in the work of Irish Murdoch broaden the appeal of this issue as does an examination, by the Revd Patricia Hanna, of the 19th century Church of Ireland scholar, James Henthorn Todd, and a reflection, by the Revd Olive Donohoe, on the later Brother Roger the founder of the Taize community.

Today (Saturday) the Principal of the Church of Ireland Theological College, Professor Adrian Empey, and the Trinity Chaplain, Dr Alan McCormack, will lead a group of Church of Ireland ordinands on a study trip to Venice where they will attend seminars at the Ecumenical Institute of San Francesco della Vigna. In Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, the lunchtime recital will be given by students from the Cathedral Girls? Choir.

In Whitechurch parish, Dublin, the Bishop of Shyogwe, in Rwanda, the Rt Revd Jered Kalumba, will preach at the morning service and in the afternoon he will be the preacher at a Discovery Service in St Maelruin?s Church, Tallaght, at 3 pm.
