Summer Issue of Search
The summer issue of the Church of Ireland journal, Search, is now available. The introduction of a summer issue is a relatively recent innovation and is principally a vehicle to carry the proceedings of an annual colloquium which the Search Committee organizes. As such, the summer issue, because it has a particular theme often has a special appeal to readers who are not regular subscribers.
This issue is something of a new departure for Search as it includes a number of striking colour photos of re–ordered church interiors. Sourced for the recent “Re–pitching the Tent” Colloquium on re–ordering liturgical space led by Canon Richard Giles, the photos are from the USA, Australia, England and the Church of Ireland, north and south – illustrating articles on recent re–ordering projects.
Pictures from Richard Giles’ major projects in Philadelphia, Perth diocese and Huddersfield illustrate his keynote article, which urges the necessity of re–ordering in the service of mission. Further photos enhance the story of the re–ordering of St Laserian’s cathedral in Co. Carlow, as seen by architect Margaret Quinlan and the Dean of Leighlin, the Very Revd Tom Gordon, with more general reflections from the Bishop of Cashel, Ferns & Ossory, the Rt Revd Michael Burrows. Additional material from the Revd Ian Gamble on renewal and re–ordering in Donaghadee parish church and from the Dean of Down, the Very Revd Henry Hull, on the renewal of the interior of Down Cathedral, provide additional perspectives from the northern province.
