Archdeacon Chillingworth appointed Bishop of St. Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane

ARCHDEACON CHILLINGWORTH APPOINTED BISHOP OF ST. ANDREWS, DUNKELD AND DUNBLANE

Saturday 11th December 2004

The Rt Rev Harold Miller, Bishop of Down and Dromore, today welcomed the appointment of the Venerable David Chillingworth, Archdeacon of Dromore and Rector of Seagoe Parish, Portadown, as the new Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane, Episcopal Church of Scotland.

Bishop Miller said: "The news that Archdeacon David Chillingworth is to be the new Bishop of St Andrews is, for me, both a great joy and a great sadness. Joy that Davids gifts of leadership in the Church have been recognised in this way. He has proven himself to be a focused, caring and visionary leader. Sadness that he will be moving away from the Diocese of Down and Dromore and indeed, from the Church of Ireland, where his ministry has been greatly valued. David has not only been an excellent rector and archdeacon, he has also been a voice of wisdom and courage speaking into the political situation in Northern Ireland.

"May God bless David and Alison as they prepare to move to the Episcopal Church of Scotland."
