Easter message from the Most Revd Robin Eames, Archbishop of Armagh
Most Revd Robin Eames
Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of all Ireland
Easter message 2006
The essential core of the Christian Easter is hope and confidence.
The Resurrection of Christ speaks of hope for the world and confidence that there are greater truths and realities to ordinary life which can point the way to new understanding and relationships. That hope and confidence raises us beyond doubt and negativity to what is possible. The Resurrection proved that what Christ taught during his life-time had a value and meaning far beyond mere words. It proved that love was far more important than hate, that life had a value beyond suspicion and broken relationships and that eternal truths opened the door to what possibilities could be grasped when trust was born.
This Easter trust remains the great need for our community. Trust brings confidence on the personal and the community level. Without it we will continue to stumble from one negative experience to the other. But when trust exists the only question for a community and for individuals is ?Why not??. Trust at any level opens doors and unlocks hearts and minds. This community has yet to discover the possibilities that trust can produce. It is that trust we must pray and work for if the Easter message is to have real meaning for us all.
