The Archbishop of Armagh and the Archbishop of Dublin have asked that special retiring collections should be made in churches tomorrow (Sunday).

Tomorrow (Sunday) morning in Holy Trinity church, Garvary, there will be a special service to mark the 150th anniversary of the laying of the foundation stone by Anne Elizabeth Honoria, Countess of Belmore, and wife of the young 4th Earl of Belmore, Somerset Richard Lowry Corry.

Tomorrow (Sunday) evening there will be a Service of Acknowledgement and Admission for the Revd Geoffrey Bridle and the Revd Henry Blair as canons in St Macartan’s cathedral, Clogher, where the preacher will be the Bishop of Clogher.

The Bishop of Kilmore will dedicate the recently restored Conacher organ in St John’s church, Cloverhill, during the Harvest Festival. The restoration, which involved significant local fundraising was supported by the Heritage Council. In St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin, at Evensong, there will be a Battle of Britain Commemoration.

On Thursday at 3pm there will be a service of Choral Evensong in St Patrick’s cathedral, Dublin, for all Church of Ireland and Protestant second level schools to mark the opening of the academic year. The speaker at the service will be Mr John Mills from Barnardo’s. Prior to the service Minister Humphreys will tour the historical Marsh’s Library.

From next Thursday to Friday, Canon Ian Ellis, rector of Newcastle, Co. Down, and editor of The Church of Ireland Gazette, will represent the Commission for Christian Unity and Dialogue at a consultation at the High Leigh Conference Centre in Hertfordshire on the World Council of Churches Faith and Order document, The Church: Towards a Common Vision. The document is the result of two decades’ theological work and thus represents a major milestone in the continuing search for the full visible unity of the Church. The Church of Ireland is in the process of developing its formal response to the WCC document.

On Friday evening the Abbot of Glenstal, Dom Mark Patrick Hederman, will be the preacher at the Harvest Thanksgiving Festival in St Mary’s church, Carlow.
