The Mothers’ Union is calling on women all over Ireland to stand together in prayer and in person today (Saturday) in an All–Ireland Prayer Vigil, organised as a powerful gesture of solidarity with women in Ireland and across the world who are suffering gender–based violence. With gatherings in all twelve dioceses of the Church of Ireland, Mothers’ Union hopes this simple act of solidarity will help raise awareness among the general population and encourage governments to take action to end gender–based violence. The ‘16 Days’ campaign is based on the period between 25th November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and 10th December (Human Rights Day).
Tomorrow the beginning of Advent will be marked with carol services in churches and cathedrals throughout the country.
