Christ Church Summer School Planned
A Summer School, entitled ?Ceangal Dha Chultur: Celtic Revival Summer School?, consisting of six days of lectures, art, music, poetry, drama and field trips has been planned for 7 to 12 July. This will be a collaborative venture between Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, and the Aras Eanna arts centre on the Aran Island of Inis Oirr. The aim of the event is to explore the uniquely inclusive atmosphere of the Celtic revival period in late 19th and early 20th century Ireland, a feature of which was the encounter between two great Irish traditions, the Anglo-Irish and the Gaelic Irish.
The Summer School will begin on the evening of Friday 7 July in Christ Church and will transfer to Inis Oirr on Sunday. Among the speakers will be Dr Nicola Gordon Bowe, the authority on the work of Harry Clarke; Professor Terence Brown, from the English Department in Trinity College, Dublin, and Dr Judith Hill, the biographer of Lady Gregory. The contribution of Douglas Hyde will be considered by the former Archbishop of Dublin, Dr Donald Caird, and there will also be explorations of the Gaelic League, the G.A.A. and the Abbey Theatre.
The Director of the Summer School is Aonghus Dwane, Director of the Aras Eannaa arts centre, and the consultant is the Church of Ireland Historiographer, Dr Kenneth Milne. Both are members of the Christ Church Cathedral Culture Committee.
Registration forms may be had from 099 75150 or from [email protected] and further details are available at www.araseanna.ie and www.cccdib.ie
