New All-Ireland President for Mothers' Union

The Mothers' Union (MU) in Ireland welcomed Margaret Crawford as it's new All-Ireland President. Taking up office, Margaret said it is an honour and a privilege but a humbling experience to have been elected to lead the MU in Ireland over the next three years. She believes that the challenges facing MU are even more relevant today than when it began, with the "family" still being the most important "unit" in the world.
As All-Ireland President, Margaret becomes the representative head of the 10,500 members across the twelve dioceses of the Church of Ireland and will also serve on the Trustee Board of the Mothers? Union at an international level. MU members, of which there are 3.6 million worldwide, financially support emergency relief, education, parenting and marriage support programmes. Within Ireland local initiatives include marriage preparation, parenting courses, parent and toddler groups and community outreach projects for families facing adversity.
Margaret who lives in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, has been a member of the MU for 30 years, and has served at local and diocesan level, including a term as Diocesan President in Clogher Diocese. Reflecting on the future challenges of the MU in Ireland she said ?I believe that we are growing in confidence and in our power to affect society in a positive manner. We must continue to build up the sanctity of marriage and promote family values and positive parenting.?
