Hard Gospel Director comments on Statement by Police Ombudsman

The Director of the Church of Ireland Hard Gospel Project, the Revd Earl Storey said today:

?The statement by the Police Ombudsman, Mrs Nuala O?Loan on the findings of her investigation into the killing of Mr Raymond McCord Junior makes for difficult reading. The alleged actions of certain police officers acting in collusion with paramilitaries is shocking.

?The majority of members of the RUC and its successor, the PSNI, have administered the law and brought great credit to their uniform, often in desperate circumstances. This report will be a matter of huge distress to them, as much as to the rest of the community.

?Members of the forces of law and order must operate within the law and must be held accountable if they step outside it. The community must be grateful to the Police Ombudsman for doing that most difficult of jobs ? helping us to look at something we find it difficult to reflect on.?
