Clergy of Clogher Published
One of the most frequently used sources in the Representative Church Body Library are the biographical succession lists of Church of Ireland clergy which were prepared in the first half of the 20th century by Canon J.B. Leslie. At the time of his death, in 1952, Leslie had published volumes for eight dioceses and the remainder of his work was left as annotated typescript volumes. In the following years there were a number of well meaning but ultimately fruitless attempts to publish these volumes and it was not until 1993 that a new programme of publication began in association with the Ulster Historical Foundation.
This series has produced new volumes on the clergy of Connor and Dublin & Glendalough and revised and updated volumes for Derry & Raphoe, Down and Dromore and, most recently Clogher. The Clogher volume, which appeared late in 2006, consists of the text of Canon Leslie?s original succession list for the diocese, together with information on clergy since 1929 and photographs of the parish churches. The detailed work of revision has been carried out by Canon David Crooks, Rector of Taughboyne, and the former Dean of Clogher, the Very Revd Thomas Moore, who together have produced an invaluable work of reference for historians, genealogists and the simply curious.
Not content to rest on the laurels of Clogher, Canon Crooks has turned his attention to the Dioceses of Kilmore, Elphin & Ardagh and has been updating Canon Leslie?s unpublished succession lists for these dioceses. A pre-publication offer is available for this book. The publication price will be ?70/£50 but for those who subscribe before 1 July the price will be ?55/£40. Details may be had from the Kilmore Diocesan Office, Whitestar Complex, Market Street, Cootehill, Co. Cavan.
