Commissioning of the new Mothers' Union All-Ireland President
Introduction to Service of Commissioning of Mrs Margaret Crawford as Mothers? Union All-Ireland President in St Macartin?s Cathedral, Enniskillen on Sunday, 11 March 2007
by the Right Reverend Dr Michael Jackson, Bishop of Clogher
Those of you who are visitors today to Clogher Diocese and to St Macartin?s Cathedral, Enniskillen are most welcome as together we mark a special occasion in the life of the Mothers? Union in Ireland ? the Commissioning of a new All-Ireland President of Mothers? Union and of Members of the Mothers? Union Central Executive.
This is special for us in Clogher Diocese in a particular way: Mrs Margaret Crawford, who has contributed in a wide number of ways to Mothers? Union life in Clogher, most recently and most notably as Diocesan President, is today to be commissioned the new All-Ireland President. We are proud of Margaret and very happy for her.
I know that Margaret has today the support of her family, of Mothers? Union members nationally and internationally, and also of members of Branches throughout this Diocese of Clogher which is her home diocese. The Mothers? Union is strong in Clogher and its Members are greatly involved in the life of the parishes and communities to which they belong.
Margaret has been tireless in her commitment to and affection for the Mothers? Union Branches of Clogher and also the Indoor Members. The presence of so many Members of our own Branches here today witnesses to that fact, and to the esteem in which Margaret is held.
We in Clogher have every confidence that Margaret will contribute in the same effective way to the life of the Mothers? Union across Ireland as she has done in her own diocese. In wishing her all that is best we also ask that God bless her in the work ahead. In commending her to the guidance and inspiration of Almighty God, I use the Collect of St Macartan, patron saint of Clogher Diocese:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for Macartan, faithful companion of St Patrick, and builder of your church in Clogher: Build up your church through those whom you call to leadership in this generation, and strengthen your church to proclaim the gospel of reconciliation and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
