A reflection on the Revd James McMurray–Taylor, Church of Ireland chaplain to the First Battalion of the Royal Ulster Rifles 1943–47, who landed on Sword Beach, Normandy, on D–Day, delivered by Archbishop John McDowell at the Royal Irish Regiment Service at Ranville on Friday, 7th June 2024.
Speaking in Normandy at the prayer service to mark the 80th anniversary of the D–Day landing, the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Armagh, Archbishop John McDowell, and the Catholic Archbishop of Armagh, Archbishop Eamon Martin, have reflected together on the sacrifice of those who gave their lives on D–Day 1944.
A large number of people including civic leaders and representatives of the Armed Forces and Regimental Associations gathered in St. Macartin’s Cathedral, Enniskillen, on Thursday evening, 6 June for the D–Day Commemoration Service at which the Royal Air Forces Association Fermanagh Branch participated.
Leaders from civic and community life alongside members of the public gathered in St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, Armagh, on Thursday evening (6th June 2024) for a service of commemoration, recalling with gratitude, the sacrifice made by so many on the beaches of Normandy exactly 80 years ago.
