Tá réimse leathan d’imeachtaí eagraithe ag Eaglais na hÉireann le linn Sheachtain na Gaeilge. Beidh neart seirbhísí  i nGaeilge ar Lá Fhéile Pádraig fud fad na tíre,  mar aon le  ciorcal comhrá nua in Ardteampall Chríost, BÁC,  agus eolas suimiúil ar shuíomh  Eaglais na hÉireann  faoi Dhubhghlas  de hÍde agus an Lúireach Phádraig.

Ar 15 Márta, beidh Urnaí na Nóna dátheangach  in Ardteampall Chríost, BÁC ag 6.00 i.n. agus  seisiún ‘Bláiseadh Teanga’ de thosaitheoirí, mar aon le sólaistí ina dhiaidh.
Dúirt an Déan Dunne: “Bíonn seirbhísí ann go míosúil i nGaeilge in Ardteampall Chríost, ach ba mhaith linn deis a thabhairt do dhaoine le beagán Gaeilge freisin.  Beidh ‘taster session’ againn le linn Sheachtain na Gaeilge agus beidh seirbhís dátheangach ann go rialta amach anseo mar chuid den chlár nua a bheadh le feiceáil ar www.cccdub.ie.”

Beidh seirbhísí  i nGaeilge fud fad na tíre ag ceiliúradh Lá Fhéile Pádraig ar 17 Márta, ina measc: An Chomaoineach Naofa,  Naomh Pádraig, BÁC, ag 8.30 r.n;  Eocairist Chórúil (dátheangach),  Teampall na Naomh Uile, Gráinseach Ghormáin, BÁC ag 10.30 r.n;   Eocairist Chórúil (dátheangach), Dumhach Thrá, BÁC ag11.00r.n;  An Chomaoineach Naofa (dátheangach), Ardteampall Naomh Muire, Luimneach ag10.30 r.n.;  An Chomaoineach Naofa,  Ardteampall Phort Láirge ag 10.00 r.n. agus  An Chomaoineach Naofa,  Ardteampall Chaisil ag 11.30r.n..  Ar an lá dár gcoinn, 18 Márta, beidh Urnaí na Nóna ar siúl i dTeampall Naomh Sheoirse, Béal Feirste ag 5.00 i.n. agus Eocairist Chórúil (dátheangach) i gCill Orglan, Co. Chiarraí ag 11.00r.n..

Tá Cartlann na Míosa seo de chuid Leabharlann Chomhlacht Ionadaíochta  na hEaglaise dírithe ar an  Lúireach Pádraig.  De réir cáipéisí a bhronn Beatrice Hamilton (ailias Eitne Culverwell) ar an Leabharlann  is léir gur scríobh sí chuig Dúbdghlas  de hÍde  i 1914 ar son Chumann Gaelach na hEaglaise ag impí air aistriúcháin  nuachóirithe a dhéanamh ar an Lúireach.  Tháinig sé ar ais chuici ar dtús ag rá go raibh sé ‘ró–ghnóthach’, ach ‘nuair a cuireadh brú air’ thoiligh sé ‘go seolfadh sé cártaí poist de chugam, dá seolfainn leagan bunaidh an iomainn chuige ar chártaí poist’, rud a rinne sé go cuí, de réir dealraimh, ag scríobh chuici ag áit chónaithe an teaghlaigh, ‘an Bothán’, ar mhullach Bhinn Éadair, Contae Bhaile Átha Cliath agus bhíodh a nótaí don scríbhneoir in éineacht le haistriúchán gach rainn, chomh maith le leithscéalta as drochchaighdeán a chuid aistriúcháin, dar leis. Bhí a leasainm sainiúil, ‘An Craoibhín’  sínithe aige ar gach ceann den chúig chárta poist a sheol sé mar fhreagra. Ar an gcárta deireanach scríobh sé an méid seo a leanas: ‘Seo dhuit an ceann deireanach. Níl brón orm gur é seo an ceann deireanach [toisc] é a bheith déanta go dona agam. Le gach dea–ghuí, Do chara An Cr’.

Tá na cártaí poist agus tuilleadh eolais le feiceáil ar http://ireland.anglican.org/library/archive agus tá siad ar taispeántas don phobal freisin.

Church of Ireland’s busy schedule for Seachtain na Gaeilge

There are a range of Irish language activities planned in the Church of Ireland for Seachtain na Gaeilge, with Irish language services across the country on St. Patrick’s Day, a new  Irish language ‘taster session’ for beginners in Christ Church Cathedral and an interesting  piece of new research on Douglas de hÍde’s translation of St. Patrick’s Breastplate, available on the Church of Ireland website, under Archive of the Month.

There will be a bilingual Evensong  on 15 March in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin at 6.00 followed by refreshments and an  Irish language taster in the Chapter Room.

The Dean Christ Church Cathedral, Dean Dunne said, “We have monthly services in Irish in the Cathedral but we want to reach out to people who may have only a little Irish and we wish to encourage them with our ‘taster session’ in March and, as part of our new programme of services, to offer a regular bilingual service.  The details will be available on our website, www.cccdub.ie.”

There will also be services in Irish throughout the country to celebrate St. Patrick on 17 March, including:  Holy Communion, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, at 8.30am;  Choral Eucharist (bilingual) All Saint’s Church, Grangegorman, at 10.30a.m.;  Choral Eucharist, St. John’s, Sandymount, Dublin, at 11.00;  Holy Communion (bilingual) St. Mary’s Cathedral, Limerick, at 10.30 a.m; Holy Communion, Waterford Cathedral, at10.00 and Holy Communion,  Cashel Cathedral, at11.30. On  18 March, there will be Evening Prayer, St. George’s, Belfast, at 5.00p.m.,  and Choral Eucharist (bilingual ) at St. Michael’s Church,  Killorglin, Co. Kerry at 11.00a.m..

The  Archive of the Month by Representative Church Body (RCB) Library exhibits new documents and research on the translation of St. Patrick’s Breastplate.  According to the  papers donated by Beatrice Hamilton (alias Eitne Culverwell) to the Library she wrote to Douglas de hIde in 1914 at the behest of Cumann Gaelach na hEaglaise (Irish Guild of the Church) asking him to provide a modern translation to St. Patrick’s Breastplate.  Initially Hyde had said ‘he was too busy, but on pressure’ agreed that if she ‘sent him the original version of the hymn on postcardfuls [sic.] he would return me postcardfuls’ which he seems to have duly done, writing to her at the family home, ‘the Hut’ on Howth summit, County Dublin, including with the translation of each verse, his notes to the writer, and apologies for in his opinion the poor quality of his translation. Each of his five postcard replies is signed with his distinctive pet–name ‘An Craoibhín’ [the little branch]. On the final card he wrote: ‘This is the last for you. I am not sorry it is the last [as] have done it badly. Many blessings to you, Your friend An Cr’.

These documents and more information  can be viewed www.ireland.anglican.org/library/archive  and they are also available for public inspection in the RCB Library.
