In the course of his address for BBC Radio Ulster’s Morning Service, at St Columba’s, Knock, this morning (11th September), Archbishop John McDowell reflected on the birth and early life of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
“The well spring for her long reign was her deep Christian faith expressed in love. She loved and was loved in return by so many people.”
“Above all, Queen Elizabeth was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ. She took many opportunities, especially in her Christmas speeches, to speak of her faith and point others towards him.”
“She did not disguise the roots of these qualities in her Christian faith but gave sterling witness to a practical belief in God, something for which Christian leaders like ourselves are especially grateful in time of changing culture.”
“Although our hearts are saddened by the death of Queen Elizabeth II, we give thanks to Almighty God for her long life and draw inspiration from the example of her clear faith, her devotion to Christ and selfless service.”
“She was a person who set a shining and consistent example of duty, service and care as someone who put the public good above personal considerations.”
“This is a moment of profound sadness for all of us in the Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, who have held Her Majesty The Queen in our hearts and prayers, in many cases for the whole of our lives.”
“The Queen throughout her long life demonstrated to all of us what true faith in Christ looks like in terms of practical, humble service.”
Archbishop John McDowell has issued the following statement of tribute upon the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
